Obituary for John Russell "Russ" Rittenhouse

John Russell “Russ” Rittenhouse, 81, of Weston was called up to the arms of the Lord on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family following a long battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. He was born in Burnsville, WV on November 15, 1937: son of the late Willard Rittenhouse and Evelyn (Black) Rittenhouse. On November 15, 1962, he married Mary (Smith) Rittenhouse, who survives.

Russ is also survived by one daughter: Anita Karp and husband Joe of Weston, one son: John “Rusty” Rittenhouse of Weston, and one daughter-in-law: Charlene Salisbury of Jane Lew. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Bryson and Tyler Karp, Nathan Embree and Shelby Rittenhouse and four great-grandchildren: Jayla and Apollo Embree and Mason and Graham Karp. Russ is also survived by one ½ brother: Gary Rittenhouse of Weston, one ½ sister: Carolyn Sue Reed of Glenville and several; nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Russ was preceded in death by one ½ brother: Larry Rittenhouse.

Mr. Rittenhouse retired in 1996 from Southern States Co-op as district manager independent Marketing in West Virginia with 34 years of service. He was a graduate of Weston High School with the class of 1956 and attended the Valley View Church of the Nazarene of Weston. He was a member of the Lewis County Farm Bureau where he was active in Soil Conservation. Mr. Rittenhouse was very active. He read and studied his Bible and Devotionals every day. His hobbies were ginesanging, hunting, playing tennis and his love for weather and meteorology studies. Russ was also an avid WVU Mountaineer fan.

Mr. Rittenhouse was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp serving as a private first class from September 1956 until September 1962.

Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Saturday, October 26, 2019 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral; Home chapel Reverend Dwayne Brown and Reverend Ron Brown officiating. Interment will follow services in the Chestnut Flats Cemetery of Upshur County. Full military honors will be rendered by the United States Marine Corp and the Lewis County Honor Guard.
