Betty Lou Smith, 90, of Weston passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2019 in Crestview Nursing Home of Jane Lew following an extended illness. She was born in Lewis County on April 15, 1929: daughter of the late Hurley Turner and Belva (Brinkley) Turner.
Ms. Smith was the last surviving member of her immediate family and is survived by one nephew: Jerry Burkhammer and wife Ann of Weston who looked after her, two nieces: Judy Meffert of Hurricane, WV and Joy Mason of Marietta, OH and several great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by two brothers: Burdell Turner and Homer Turner and one sister: Ruth Turner Burkhammer.
Ms. Smith was a secretary for the WV Department of Natural Resources in Elkins where she lived most of her adult life. She was a graduate of Weston High School in Weston, WV.
Per Betty’s request, her wishes for cremation will be carried out. She also did not want a visitation or a funeral ceremony and wanted family and friends to remember her life and not her life’s ending chapter.
