Obituary for Doyle Bradley ""Brad"" Shaffer
Doyle Bradley “Brad” Shaffer, 81, of Arnold Street Weston passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018 at his son’s residence in Fairmont following an 8 month illness. He was born in Morgantown on June 26, 1937: son of Lazure Estell and Elizabeth (Lott) Estell and went to live with Elmer Doyle Shaffer and Elsie (Stalnaker) Shaffer at an early age. On March 25, 1960, he married Carol Rough Shaffer, who survives.
Brad was blessed with one son: Scott Bradley Shaffer and wife Sandra of Fairmont and two grandchildren: David Bradley Scott Shaffer and Dylan Lee Shaffer. He is also survived by one brother: Larry Estell of Baltimore, MD and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Brad was preceded in death by four brothers: Lazure, Jr., Loran, Jack and Donald Estell.
Brad retired from West Virginia Department of Human Resources as a County Director, Area Administrator and Director of Child Support in the northern part of the state. He was a graduate of Morgantown High School class of 1955 and graduate of Glenville State College with a bachelor-of-arts degree in Business and social studies. Early in his career, Brad taught history in Weston Junior High. Brad was a veteran of the United States Navy.
Mr. Shaffer was a member of the First Baptist Church of Weston and Weston Rotary Club. Brad was an avid West Virginia University sports fan. His hobbies included playing cards and golf with his friends. Some of his greatest joy was spending time with friends, family and especially his grandsons.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Friday, January 4, 2018 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Eric Kendall officiating.
