Obituary for Ruby Elizabeth Christy (Pumphrey)
Ruby Elizabeth Christy, 86, of Weston passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2019 in Crestview Nursing Home of Jane Lew following an extended illness. She was born on Goosepen Road on Lewis County on March 20, 1933: daughter of the late William “Bill” Pumphrey and Haydie Almeta (Wilt) Pumphrey. On October 13, 1956, she married Clyde Ault Christy, who preceded her in death on June 19, 2000.
Ruby is survived by three loving children: James Grey Christy and wife Linda of Statesboro, GA, Linda Kay Sumpter and husband Fred of Jane Lew and Clyde Edward Christy and wife Laura of Morgantown, five grandchildren: Alicia St Clair and husband Brian, Bobbie Davisson and husband Brad, David Christy, Elise Christy and husband Brian Hilbert and Andrew Christy and six great grandchildren: Shyanna James, Joseph Davisson, Corrie and Cody St Clair and Hazel and Erik Hilbert. She is also survived by three sisters: JoAnn Reed and Janie Pumphrey both of Weston and Evelyn Titus and husband Jim of Lost Creek, two brothers: William E. Pumphrey of Warren, OH and Robert Lee Pumphrey and wife Pat of Cortland, OH and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband Clyde, Ruby was preceded in death by one sister: Judith Kay Gillespie.
When Ruby was younger she worked at several local restaurants and the Weston Laundromat. She retired from Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital after 33 years of service as a cashier. She was a Baptist by faith.
Ruby’s interests include playing cards at the Lewis County Senior Center, watching Mountaineer sports and also watching her grandchildren in local sports. She also loved family gatherings and playing BINGO.
Due to her illness and being unable to walk she spent the last 2 ½ years under the compassionate care of Crestview. She enjoyed living there and attended all the activities. She especially looked forward to getting her hair done. She was very friendly and always spoke to everyone.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Sunday, August 11, 2019 from 1-3 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Kenneth Miller officiating.
