Obituary for Richard Charles Parker

Richard Charles Parker, 74 left behind his best friend and wife of 54 years on 01/30/18 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Richard departed this life from the comfort of his home surrounded by his wife and three surviving children: Richard C. Parker Jr (wife Amanda), Rebecca Hamon (Husband Troy), and Judy Puffinbarker (Greg). He was born in Ludlow, Massachusetts on September 6, 1943.
Also Surviving are his; eight grandchildren: Arthur Taylor, Richard Parker III, Krystal Riley, Jessica Watson, Gregory Puffinbarker, David Hamon, Chloe Parker and Hannah Parker. Eleven Great Grandchildren: Brandon Parker, Bricen Siron, Gabrielle Taylor, Mariah Watson, Taylor Riley, Olivia “Bella” Parker, Alexander Riley, McKenzie Taylor, Richard Parker IV, Mattilyn Parker and Trinity Puffinbarker. Richard left behind his brothers, Robert Parker, Danny Parker, and Michael Parker, one sister Janet Smith all of Weston, WV and several nieces and nephews.
Waiting for him on the other side was his mother, Fawn (Garrett) Parker, father Earl Parker, older brother William “Bill” Parker and son, Earl Parker.
Richard was a Vietnam War Veteran, Victim of Agent Orange and recipient of the Purple Heart for his service in the U. S. Army where he was honorably discharged. His service included duty in three major battles. At the age of 24 he and his battalion defended an attack on Long Binh, Vietnam killing over 1000 communist attackers on Saigon Bien Hoa Highway while his unit only suffered one casualty and twelve wounded. He was recognized for his continued alertness and bravery under fire.
In addition to spending time with his family, Richard enjoyed his time with his beloved dogs: Precious, Butchy and Sparky . Richard and Judy spent a considerable amount of their time listening to Rockabilly music by Ryan Cain and even recently enjoyed a private music session at this home. Richard had a kind heart and will be missed by all who knew him.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 2-4 & 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Jay Burkhart officiating. Interment will follow services in the Peterson Cemetery of Weston, WV. Full military honors will be provided by the United States Army.
